It’s September and the new keyword is LOVE. This is a word that has so much baggage attached to it and yet when you narrow it all down it’s the power that drives every aspect of your creative connection. Ya better love it or there is no way to move forward! More on this topic as September unfolds.
Before going forward let’s review and reflect on the wonder of August:
In August every year, our keyword is Trust. As in Trust the Process.
Trust is a term we hear bandied about as though it is simple and anyone can do it. Trust. Trust yourself. Trust others. Trust Life. During these challenging times, it may not feel so easy, it may be downright daunting. How to recognize the ability present to engage trust? How to enhance trust, allow it to grow and expand and open the creative spirit to more ability to trust what is and what may come to be. It’s a dilemma.
Fortunately, the moon/month of August has offered the timely opportunity to focus your creative attention in this direction. To Trust. When I Google Trust this definition appears:
-
noun:firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.“relations have to be built on trust”Similar:confidence, belief, faith, freedom from suspicion/doubt, sureness, certainty, certitude, assurance, conviction, credence, reliance
-
noun: LAWan arrangement whereby a person (a trustee) holds property as its nominal owner for the good of one or more beneficiaries.“a trust was set up”Similar: safekeeping, keeping, protection, charge, care, custody, trusteeship, guardianship
-
verb:believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of.“I should never have trusted her”
I value the 31 days of August. Each year a gift of Trust is offered. In the early part of my art/life trust was hidden in a very deep pothole. I had ‘every good reason’ not to trust myself, others, or life. I had been disappeared, assaulted, left with nothing tangible. And yet … Have you read the Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters? It tells a great story and one worth repeating until it feels natural to choose a different street.
August is a natural time when the spotlight is placed upon the harvest. This is when your ancestors would have run a check n’ balance on their ability to live in harmony with the land, to raise the food necessary to see them through the winter. August is your opportunity to up-level your capacity to Trust: yourself, others, Life, and The Mystery.
I have a creative practice that lets me check-in to see if I trust myself. The practice happens with a lot less bumpiness than it used to … it’s taken a good while to put the tools that work for me into place.
After I attend to my well-being I look around and ask if I am able to trust others. I take a long view and allow others to show me who they are. I trust those around me to show me their true colors. While my dear friend lay in her hospital bed preparing to take leave with stage 4 brain cancer her favorite words were, “Life. Works.” She helped me. Being a hospice volunteer also gave me first-hand experience in learning to Trust Life and the infinite Mystery.
This is an opportune time to mine (like gold) the field of trust. Think about the landscape during the gold rush when prospectors could literally bend down, place their hands into rushing water and see the gold that had popped up to the surface and been washed downstream … gold lying at their feet simply waiting to be collected and invested.
Imagine mining the harvest of your ideas, your never-to-be-repeated inspirations, the challenges that have brought you here, and the opportunities unfolding with each step. Yes. These are truly challenging times. Looking at history we can document that challenge is woven into the fabric of life. These times seem more intense. No matter what direction we look there is something to cause trauma and increased drama. And yet, here too we are reminded that it only takes one of us to bring forward another set of possibilities. Will you be the one?
Here’s a look back to the post from 2018 with reminders that the creative process is comprised of your many ages and the endless stages that appear solely to support your forward movement.

Spring and summer are the natural time for planting idea seeds, watching them germinate and grow, tending and trusting that they will grow and trusting the harvest of the fruits of your labors. Trusting the growth process and putting LOVE onto every step of the path.
Celebrating you and your creative process as it is continuously unfolding.
I am always surprised, Donna, and grateful, when I read your posts and find something true that connects with and supports the truth of my own journey. Thank you for the many, many reminders to pay attention and for sharing and teaching the tools and practices that help keep things in synch with the energy of the natural world.
Thank you, Kathleen.
I appreciate reading your comment! Your reflection reminds me that “we teach what we need to learn.” Every mention to pay attention, create a focus, and hush the rush by staying connected to the cycles of the seasons are my prompts to stay in (or to return to) The Zone, The Flow, The Graced Space/Pace … Cuz TIMES A WASTIN!!! ‘n this ain’t no dress rehearsal 😉
I challenge each of us to rise above the battlefields that are “bursting in air” all around us and to ‘get into the studio’ and be about the work of experiencing, expressing, creating, and contributing to the best world we can dream of.
Love seeing all of your work.
Thanks, Kristin ~ We could start a mutual admiration society 😉
