A Common Sense Approach…

Welcome!

We are Creatives exploring the art/life trail…

I’m so happy that you’re here.

We are 4 weeks into the new Natural/Circadian/Feminine year. We are on the hunt for silver linings. Silver linings are found behind what appears. We’re looking beyond appearances to find the glimmer and the shimmer of something wonderful emerging. There is good sense in this…common sense. Let’s unpack the possibility for the weeks ahead.

As we move into the Spring quadrant…the 90 days between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice…we become actively engaged and focused.

It’s appropriate and timely to have a vision for the year. Start with an inquiry:

What would you like to have come of this time?

What do you feel this time is for?

Take out your journal and write your replies. Allow both your dominant and your non-dominant writing hand to have its turn. This is fun! It opens up communication with the side of your brain that is usually relegated to watching as you speed full steam ahead.

We see that it’s useful, and it does no harm, to place these two inquiries at the start of the new Natural Year. It makes sense, common sense, to have an idea, a dream and inspiration, a project, a program, a relationship, a challenge that we are willing to commit to.

What do you choose to have come of this time ahead?

What is this time for?

Here on the trail we recognize this broader approach to engaging a relationship with time. We calm down. We allow ourselves to blossom aligning with natural time.

Here’s my short story:

I’ve been very much engaged with tree farming for the past 7 years. On average  one week each month is invested here on my 50 acre farm. I work in the small works studio preparing for a solo exhibition coming in July at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. I also am outside much of the afternoon thinning young trees to provide more space for strong healthy growth…

Hand trim the young pines to make space

I’m also bushwhacking through thick mats of briers and aggressive Rugosa rose brambles as I make hiking paths.

I start a path with a machete and work up to a hand saw

I’m also beginning a new semester of studios at Virginia MOCA. I work with 11 young artists each Thursday in our Home-school/MOCART program. It’s like a one room art school where ages span 6 to 13 years and where, this semester, we explore the art of stitching. We embroider, applique, bead, batik, hand paint, dye, design, machine sew. By the close of the session each artist takes home a personal creation, designed by them and made by hand… from beginning to end where the magic clearly shows.

On Friday I lead Pastel Drawing with adults. This is a new studio offering for me, yet one where my first medium of choice, way back at the beginning of my arts career, has a chance to be shared in a variety of forms from soft, medium and hard pastels and pastel pencils to oil pastels applied in diverse ways.

Friday evening I’m with a group of teens delving into Drawing Basics…including knowledge of anatomy:

All day Saturday I’m in the Studio with two separate groups of Art Detectives…22 in all…discovering what they each choose to explore and express…sky = limit:

Notice where you are feeling the call to engage and be inspired. It’s time to move outward….what’s the adage? “Sharing is caring.” Time to find your creative groove.

To help and support this endeavor the first three moon/months (April, May and June) lead us to reclaim a sense of inner feminine/masculine balance. Also referred to as wholeness. Wholeness may be indicated by the way that we engage the light/dark, inward/outward, receptive/assertive, stillness/active, intuitive/thinking, patient/reactive, positive/negative aspects of our relationship with the self.

Throughout this 90 days let your clarion call express the idea to BE*ME.

By investing this 90 days in a celebration of integration the inner masculine and feminine communicate with clarity regarding direction and steps forward. The active (masculine) and the receptive (feminine) symbolically marry. They harmonize and look in the same direction. By summer solstice there is a trajectory of increased growth. Experiment with this. Observe the ways that balance manifests for you.

It’s quite exciting to begin a conscious relationship with Natural Time. That’s what we’re up to here on the art/life trail.

This approach opens up The ME; that deeply balanced Alchemical, Archtypal, Shamanic awareness of both polarity and congruence. Think of these depth qualities as being what makes up of all the YOU’s that you have ever been throughout time.

Join our community of compassion in action…it’s never too late to register:

Place your idea, inspiration, vision, dream, project, program or relationship focus on the path of  what we call PWP: Progress without Pressure.
