Magnificent Monoprints

In this class students will learn about a different printmaking method each day using materials like foam, rubber, and even fruits and vegetables! We will use brayers, Plexiglas, solar papers, and other tools of the trade to create fantastic prints that deserve to hang on museum walls!

Week 3, July 25 – 29

Art Outside the Door

What wonders will you discover when you open the door of the art studio? Explore the observed and imagined worlds of plants, birds, insects, and small animals on the grounds of MOCA. Our discoveries will be recorded in a variety of formats including pen, ink, watercolor, and more.

Week 6, August 15-19

Nature Painting

Where would you travel if you could go anywhere? Research maps and landscapes from all over the globe and create a brightly patterned painting on canvas inspired by the landscape, animals, and creatures from your travels. Use sandpaper, gesso and other tools to complete this imaginative and unique painting.

Week 7, August 22-26

Batik: Soft Sculpture Art

Instructor: Donna Iona Drozda
Design and make a soft, sculptural animal pillow that you can use to hug and rest your head on, or as a beautiful wall hanging! We will work with a kid-friendly batik technique by using glue to draw on fabric, then paint and wash out the glue to reveal the characteristic deep, rich colors and fine crinkle lines of batik. You will finish by stitching your animal sculpture together and stuff it with cotton batting.

Week 8, August 29- Sept 2

Nature Painting

Summer 2016
Saturday in the Studio (Ages 6-8)
Instructor: Donna Iona Drozda
Young artists explore the museum grounds and galleries observing and creating a portfolio of 2-dimensional works on paper, cardboard, collage, canvas and wood. Each week includes an art demonstration covering techniques in drawing with a variety of artist tools; pencils, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor, tempera, resist painting as well as mono prints. Additionally each young artist is given the opportunity to discover more about his or her creative interests by exploring their own ideas.

Summer 2016
Saturday in the Studio (Ages 9-11)

Saturday in the Studio gives young artists the opportunity to design and create their own artwork from start to finish. Students will be guided through concept development to the creation of their two or three-dimensional works of art. Young artists will seek inspiration from the works on display in the museum galleries and through their own individual research. Problem solving is supported so that students may successfully complete their artistic vision.
