Following the Moon: The Big Slow Down

My rescued pup…December 10, 2012

What a difference 90 plus days make. Here’s my new dear companion…meet Bodhi…she’s a little less than a year old and I found her at the Virginia Beach SPCA on December 10. We’ve had a bit of time to get to know one another and we’re happily racking up the miles as we walk the wooded neighborhood or the maritime forest paths at the park right across from the beaches of the Chesapeake Bay…she’s a happy girl.

Shortly after she arrived so did her new sister…meet JuneBug, born October 1 and truly full of herself and all that each day offers.

It’s been a long time since  ’Following the Moon’ posted yet truly, and wonderfully, La Luna has been in the lead the whole way.

Instead of posting here, or anywhere, there’s been a lot, a lot of long-hand (ahhh…don’t you love the feel of the pen gliding across the page taking a line for a walk ‘-) writing and drawing going on and out of that some new sense of  space has been created. That space has been made up of silence in both long walks and in  taking an opportunity, during the quieting time of the natural year to simply step back. I have learned anew that trusting the feminine process of being, as in ’not doing’,  is clearly… not easy….somewhat unnerving…but oh my…I begin to sense into how excellent the dividends and possibility can be. Right here. Right now.

In conjunction with Following the Moon…each year since 1998 between October and December I write the Yearly Lifecycle Forecast. This is a way of walking around the natural wheel of the year in tune with the cycles and the seasons while also aligning with the global energy that can drive creativity in an uplifting and impassioned way.

Year after year Lifecycle Forecast is a creative way of looking at and mapping a new relationship with time.

The article is always published by my friends, and fellow ‘Luna-tics’, Sandra and David Mosley over at ZodiacArts…also on their site…throughout the year, at the New Moon, I add the current natural/creative energy read.

Round we go…creating the Art/Life by ‘Following the Moon’.

The 2013 Lifecycle Forecast article is long I know… (it addresses the energy that will be visiting all year)…and our attention span is known to be shorter all the time…so the article is something that can be bookmarked and savored.

Check it out at Zodiacarts or download and print the 2013 Lifecycle Forecast PDF file here:  LIFECYCLE
FORECAST 2013
that way you can have it on your bedstand for a lovely bedtime slow down read.

I send you so much quiet joy from the land of puppylove.

  • what a lovely post and so nice to see your puppy friends. Seems the early part of the quiet season I was happy to rest and just be, it was what I needed. But with the turning of the year I feel some angst around issues that are not moving and a sense of loneliness in all this quiet, inwardness. Looking for signs of Spring (and going over to read your forecast!)

I feel stirrings beneath the of the quiet season and coming of the new year. I get an image of the seed beneath the ground, cozy and embraced in the earth mother. So much potential held in that seed. How we all have that potential within us lying dormant until just the right time to grow. Thank you for your guidance and companionship as we all walk the wheel together.

  • I love your new puppies!!!! And of course love the name “Bodhi.” We had a cat at one time that we named Yoda (for the character) which eventually turned into Yodi-Bodhi :) Bows to you for taking shelter dogs again! I understand that they can have behavioral problems… But what a cute pair you have!

I love how your new sense of space has evolved out of the Silence of just Being. There’s been a lot of that here too: Silence, Journaling, Meditation, and just being aware of inner Being, a sense of incubating, waiting for something to emerge… Thank you for sharing your space :)

I sense your joy in this land of puppylove. Enjoy.

  • Hi Sara…Thanks for the reflection on the seed embraced by Mother Earth…we are literally rolling about on the lawns…stumbling over the abundance of this past fall crop of acorns. The sprouts are forming everywhere I look…this is an amazing sight and a formidable task lies ahead, as there’s no way that our one acre can hold all of this fecundity…and yet…how grand that there is sooooo much fertility right under foot… all I need do is lean back and look up to see the potential of ‘what can be’ towering high over my head.

  • Hi Zen…
“puppies, puppies, puppies” a sure fire way to brighten a day…play and discovery trumped only by the importance of napping.
